Course Description

This is a coach-facilitated online course to teach faculty, teachers, course developers, course designers, and administrators in higher education who are creating a new online course or who want to improve a current course with design tools to make their teaching effective and provide significant learning for their students. This course will provide an introduction to best practices of quality course design while incorporating Fink's Designing Courses for Significant Learning principles.

Syllabus

Unit 1 – Delivering Significant Learning through Course Design
Unit 2 – Planning for Course Design: Building a Foundation
Unit 3 – Aligning the Learning - Writing Outcomes
Unit 4 – Aligning the Learning - Assessing Student Learning
Unit 5 – Aligning the Learning - Creating Learning Activities
Unit 6 – Making your Course Accessible for All Learners
Unit 7 – Integrating Technology in Your Course
Unit 8 – Communicating in Your Course
Unit 9 – Assessing Your Course Quality

Each unit of the course has an assignment and required discussion participation. As the learner progresses through each unit and completes their assignment, then the next unit will appear. All assignments from all units must be submitted no later than October 25, 2018 to receive feedback and grades by October 31, 2018.

Course Testimonial:I loved the assignments. Each assignment is very useful and valuable, not just busy work. While yes, it is a lot for new faculty, but new faculty might actually benefit most from a course like this. It nicely augments standard curriculum development and, I feel, encourages faculty to think beyond creating student assignments/syllabus and schedule. –Carmen
