Course Description

Welcome to COLLEGE. In “Tricks of the Trade - Winter 2019” you will learn how to make a successful transition to college. Whether you are right out of high school, or are coming back to school after a break, this course will emphasize a wide range of factors that can contribute to your success. The course will consist of the following sections:

C - Communicate with your instructors: email etiquette, how to ask questions, how to use instructor office hours
O - Organize yourself: important dates in the college year, how not to procrastinate, scheduling your time, budgeting
L - Learn the college system: how to decode assignments, interpret the timetable, read the course syllabus, and avoid plagiarism
L - Life as a college student, including how to study, balance your life, plan a menu, cook, keep a budget, etc.
E – Emotions, including dealing with stress and anxiety, making time for recreation, etc.
G – Goal setting: reach your potential, develop new skills
E – Expertise: leverage available resources to be successful as a student
